Our original plan was to them give me PDF of their plans (they linked my model in theirs, and i link theirs in mine) and i use placeholder sheets (so my sheet schedule is correct) and then manually add their PDF to my PDF. this still seems to be a manual process when changes are made.īut your idea kind of gave me an idea for a different problem. I have consultants provide structural and other design. Maybe it would be good practice to do the details at the end of the project and use the standard details in the beginning. So I'll have large sheets with not many details on them. Like one for all the boiler details, all for chiller details etc. But I probably want to keep the ones for one specific topic separate. One problem I foresee that will require manual rearrangement is that a sheet may have room for 20 details. For this i don't really plan to reference the details in the actual model views. I think I give this a try with this project to make all the details in a Master project and move the sheets over at the end. I found it quicker just having 2 (or more) files open and copy/paste among them. Plus the act of browsing to a file, scrolling down from a long list to find the correct detail, and repeat the entire process for the next one is too tedious. I have tried the paste 2D element method but couldn't find a way to paste the elements to the exact same location. Therefore I try not to have any, and if there is a must, I use Filter instead. The setback of this method is that any visibility overides at element level will be reset after pasting. Never delete a detail view and insert a new one because you will lose all references to the old detail. When there is a need to update a detail, I do it on the master, copyclip the changes (or sometimes the entire content of the detail) and pasteclip to the same location on the Project's Detail. When I need them for a project, I import the entire Sheets so that all the references among those Details remain intact. I have a Master file with all the standard Details laid out as desired on Detail Sheets. Is there really not an easy way? Some old-timers use AutoCAd for details and link the dwg, which seems to work. Somehow copy the details in the Model views of the Master detail file, and link that model. I haven't really found a good explanation how to do that (a mute youtube video didn't help much), but it looked complex. project name etc.) and printing them is a hassle. create fake sheets in project and create detail sheet int he Detail Master file problem is a detail sheet may differ in projects, and the sheet doesn't have the project data (i.e. copy the details into project (problem is, when I update details, I need to re-copy) There seem to be several methods to work around, but none really works well: And once I update my master detail (for example when I find an improvement to a detail) I want that to be updated in the projects. typical pump schematic, typical flashing etc.) in one Revit file and link to the project where I use them. I want to have all my standard details (.i.e. I've been searching and didn't find a good way to have a Master Detail file (with details that are the same for all projects) and link them to the specific project files.
